Report: Tomlinson leaves without contract

12:39 PM, March 13, 2010 ι POST STAFF REPORT

Despite the Jets' best efforts, LaDainian Tomlinson left New Jersey without a contract and will decide his future at home in California.

ESPN's Adam Schefter used his Twitter page to report, "While he mulls his choice between NY and Minn., LaDainian Tomlinson now is flying back to San Diego, free to think it through."

Tomlinson visited the Vikings on Thursday and spent all day Friday with the Jets, each trying to convince the 30-year-old free-agent running back to sign with them.

Tomlinson reportedly visited the Jets' new stadium at the Meadowlands and had dinner with Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez, among other Jets, last night before flying home this morning.

The team reportedly was willing to give Tomlinson a two-year deal worth $7 million when incentives were factored in.

Curiously, NFL.com is selling a Vikings jersey with Tomlinson's name, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Ironically, if the Jets do sign Tomlinson, it could force the Vikings to try to sign Leon Washington, to whom the Jets have attached a second-round tender contract.

The Jets are looking to replace Thomas Jones, who signed with the Chiefs, and the Vikings lost Chester Taylor to the Bears this offseason.

Tomlinson also reportedly was considering visits with the Eagles and Saints.
