The bluesy guitar hero made a brief appearance at a media event in Los Angeles Wednesday to promote the upcoming “American Idol Live!” tour -- but inquiries about his recovery from multiple recent surgeries were strictly off limits.
“We’re not doing health questions,” a publicist interrupted when one reporter asked how Phillips, 21, planned to take care of himself on the road.
The Georgia-bred singer is still recovering from a reconstructive kidney operation on June 6. He also secretly underwent eight different procedures (including the insertion of a stint) during his time on “Idol,” it was revealed after the finale.
“I haven’t been able to do anything,” he told reporters. “I have just been laying in bed...resting and recovering.”
His frequent health issues reportedly caused Phillips to miss otherwise mandatory “Idol” commitments -- including at least one Ford television commercial.
According to published reports, Phillips’ personal doctor had insisted he drop out of the competition in early May, but the Dave Matthews wannabe refused.
As winner, Phillips is contractually obligated to appear in the 45-city tour, which kicks off July 6 in Detroit.
Sources tell The Post each of the Top 10 finalists will receive approximately $1,500 per week for their duties.
A spokesperson for “American Idol Live!” did not immediately respond to a request for a statement. It is also unclear if fans will be issued refunds in the event Phillips is unable to perform at any of the shows.
For now, Phillips said he is “pretty confident” he will be able to live up to his touring commitments.
“I just wanna have fun with it,” he said. “I have been recovering, but I have also been practicing when I can. It is gonna go well, I believe.”
