Super moms

For a happy Mother’s Day, kids tell why moms are real-life stars

My mom is like Leigh Anne. She works as a lawyer for the state, so it’s her job to be pretty tough. That sharpness creeps into our home life. I sometimes feel it’s hard to live up to her expectations . . . But just like Leigh Anne was like an “onion” with many layers, so, too, is my mom. She cares for sick and abandoned animals, watches Yankee games with my grandpa and takes grandma to the doctor. Even when I tell her to stay away, she always finds a way to come to my softball or volleyball games. Her sharp exterior may put you off. Once you get past that, she’s not such a bad vegetable.

Eden Hirtzel says her mom, Kristyann, is like George Washington — he oversaw an army, and she oversees four teens and preteens.

Nothing can stop her

Gail Devers was an Olympic athlete who overcame Graves’ disease and won an Olympic gold medal. My mom overcame breast cancer four years ago. She stayed strong and taught my sister and I to never give up. Much like Gail Devers, my mom faced many obstacles but was able to come out even stronger. It’s a pleasure to celebrate her on this day.

Meet the Avenger

My mom is like the Black Widow Natasha in “The Avengers.” I think she is one of the greatest spies who ever lived because she always finds things I don’t want her to find, like bad test grades. She wears a lot of black clothes and is always trying to keep my sister Hayley and me on track. She has keen senses and is the best at information gathering . . . Instead of having the Widow’s Bite, she gives us a look that keeps us in line and makes us do the right thing.

She has super strength when moving furniture around the house when she cleans. Most of all, she has super amounts of love that she shows us every day.

She’s a feminist!

My mom is similar to Abigail Adams, who ran her family’s farm, while John Adams was away in DC. My mom is a (very!) successful entrepreneur. Both Abigail and my mom defy society’s view of women, though society held worse views in the 18th century.

When John Adams was assisting in the writing of the Constitution, Abigail wrote, imploring him to discuss adding an amendment about women’s rights. My mom is a feminist, too. My mom believes women can do anything men can do!

Her charity comes Swift-ly

I believe that Taylor Swift is most like my mom. For example, she loves singing. Furthermore, she also loves dancing. She also loves dressing beautifully. The most important thing is that she wants to help the world after those big natural disasters, just like Taylor Swift did when the tornadoes hit the South in the USA. My mom is great. I have never told her that, but now I will.
